ABUTILON THEOPHRASTI, VELVET LEAF

Update: Mystery Solved

Pedro Betanncourt of OliveView Farm in Shasta County, California, has informed us that this is Abutilon theophrasti, commonly known as Velvet Leaf. It is a member of the Malva family, native to Asia. In many parts of the country it is considered a noxious weed, since it can rob crops of nutrients and moisture. Its leaves and seeds are edible and, in some parts of the world, are considered a delicacy. For more detailed information, readers may want to consult this resource: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abutilon_theophrasti

Thank you, Pedro
