These memories by Greg Haynes comprise 25 audio recordings describing experiences with Alan Chadwick at four of the five gardens where he worked in North America between 1967 and 1979. The recordings include vignettes from Santa Cruz, Green Gulch, Saratoga, and Covelo.
Memories of Alan Chadwick by Peter Jorris
Peter Jorris joined the Garden Project in the early days at Santa Cruz. He had been a student in the first year of the university, but as happened to others, he found more meaning in the work of the garden under Alan Chadwick than in his academic studies. Later, when Alan left Santa Cruz, Peter accompanied him to the Zen Center property at Green Gulch as a staff member.
Memories of Alan Chadwick by Michael Stusser
Michael Stusser was a student during the first year of UCSC's existence. He studied philosophy and film, and very early became involved in the Garden Project under Alan Chadwick's direction. Michael came to know some of the early figures in the establishment of the project, including Paul Lee, Page Smith, Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy, and Freya von Moltke.
Memories of Alan Chadwick by Richard Wilson
Richard Wilson was born in Los Angeles and educated at Dartmouth, where he met Oegain (sometimes spelled "Eugen") Rosenstock-Huessy, the philosopher who envisioned the U.S. Peace Corps. Eugen's life-companion was Freya von Moltke, Alan Chadwick's muse, who was instrumental in bringing Alan to his life's work teaching organic gardening in the United States.

The Villa Montalvo (Saratoga) Lectures by Alan Chadwick
The sound quality of these Villa Montalvo lectures is excellent. Some Chadwick apprentices consider these the best talks that Alan delivered anywhere. They are very direct and they include most of the themes that he touched on in the talks that he gave throughout the period of his work in the United States between 1967 and 1980.

The Biodynamic French Intensive system of Alan Chadwick. In order to obtain the finest quality vegetables, growth must be continuous and rapid. If plants are stopped in their growth, by too much or too little water, for example, they will begin worrying about death and how to circumvent death by making seeds that will ensure the survival of future generations.

Pudleston Court, Where Alan Chadwick Trained as a Gardener
Alan Chadwick occasionally spoke of his early training in gardening at Pudleston, in Herefordshire, England. This had been the family estate, but was sold sometime before Alan's birth.

Wendy Johnson is a practitioner of Zen Buddhism who lived for twenty-five years at Green Gulch Farm, the San Francisco Zen Center’s property in Marin County, California. She first met Alan Chadwick briefly in about 1975, when he made a one-day visit to give a lecture.

There is a Garden in the Mind, by Paul Lee
While this book is as much about Paul Lee as it is about Alan Chadwick, still it provides an essential historical perspective on the work that Alan did and the attitudes about life that he embodied. It was Paul that first conceived of starting an organic garden at UC Santa Cruz and who, on recommendation of the Countess Freya von Moltke, asked Alan to lead the project.
Performance in the Garden
Steve Crimi, though never having met Alan Chadwick, was given approximately 250 tapes of Alan's lectures that had been collected by Craig Siska. Crimi transcribed 16 of these lectures and published them in 2008 under the title, Performance in the Garden.
